Key Competencies.
It provides small step recognition of achievement with
lots of certificate rewards.
Although there are three quests to complete, there is no requirement to complete them all.
Schools may choose to use this resource to suit the needs of the individual student.
Schools award certificates internally. SPEC provides template certificates that are bright and colourful and may be photocopied.
A negotiated approach to learning is a proven strategy that empowers the student to take more control over their own learning. SPEC emphasises this approach through The Kiwi Quest course.
Students may choose tasks, but have to complete three of each of the key competencies to achieve a Kiwi Quest. This does however, provide the choice element and in turn decision making.
Teachers become more of a facilitator by asking the why, what, which, when, who and how questions to encourage independent thinking and ultimately the ability to manage self.
Students build up a portfolio of evidence as they complete the tasks.
