About SPEC workshop in Rotorua, Palmerston North Auckland & Christchurch

 

Attn: New Schools: Please book in for the 9 am introductory part of the day.   You must be seated at 9.00 am for a prompt start.  More experienced SPEC teachers will join us after morning tea at 10 am.

 

Existing Schools:    Please join us at 10.00 am for registration and morning tea.  

We will be seated by 10.15 to commence training.  If you would like to sit in with the introductory session earlier, you are most welcome.

Background:

 

• SPEC is a new, New Zealand NZQA approved organisation which offers courses that have been designed and written by New Zealand professionals.  The courses are based on a self directed and negotiated approach to learning which is a main focus of the new New Zealand Curriculum 2010.

 

• South Pacific Educational Courses offer NZQA Approved Certificates for Mainstream Studies at  (Level 2)  and a Certificate in Learning Support at (Level 1), for the  development and demonstration of Key Competencies.

 

Course Content Includes:

 

• Requirement of Approved Certificates.
• SPEC courses aligning to the 2010 curriculum.
• Practical workshop - Self Directed Learning. Hands on with SPEC materials.
• Question and Answer session.

 

These workshops provide a one day training opportunity for new and experienced SPEC

members.  

 

The day has been designed to meet the needs of teachers/others who consider themselves to

fit one of the following categories:

 

• Totally new to SPEC and self directed learning, an information gathering session to find out how it all works and whether courses will meet student learning needs.
• Already delivering but need reassurance and want more information about how unit standards work in with the  Mainstream Courses.
• Focus on the Supported Learning Courses, exploring differentiation using TRUMP and Headway, looking at evidence, group and individual, setting SMARTER targets with IEP goals, formulating record comments to give precise feedback on achievement.
• Want to attend and top up the enthusiasm and sharing of good ideas because these courses provide excellent PD.

 

You will be fully involved in this training opportunity that will focus on self directed learning.

Two Training books will be provided for each delegate, one book for Mainstream and one for Supported Learning.  These materials provide excellent practical material to cascade or training others.

 

During the day the information that is relevant to both Mainstream and Supported Learning courses will be delivered as a whole group.  However during the main part of the day you will focus specifically on your own area of interest.
